Getting Even
Each generation receives its own jolt,
From nothing claps a mighty thunderbolt.
And since Adam first walked it’s been a fact,
"Now to get even," is how we react.
But at times like these it’s easily forgot,
Any culture can birth a despot.
Preacher, politician; not just anarchist,
Have rabble to rouse with shake of fist.
They’re part of our lives, sometimes in our soul;
My how it’s tempting to enter their fold.
But ask yourself this, deep inside,
Do I need a flock in which to hide?
